Charley Wootan Grant Program

Charley Wootan Grant Program: Texas Guaranteed Student Loan Corporation (TG) has allocated $7 million to the Charley Wootan Grant Program. Of these funds, $6 million will be distributed to Texas students, and another $1 million will be distributed to students in other states, the District of Columbia, or U.S. territories to help pay for their college education.

The first-come, first-served, need-based grant program will provide up to $4,394 per successful applicant for the 2010-2011 academic year. Since 2000, TG has awarded nearly $9.8 million through the program, named in honor of the late Dr. Charley V. Wootan, a former chairman of TG's board of directors.

For the 2010-2011 academic year, TG will offer grants ranging from $1,000 to $4,394 to qualified undergraduate students. Amounts awarded will be based upon a student's unmet financial need. To become eligible, students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid and meet other eligibility requirements. Applicants must be high school seniors or graduates who plan to enroll, or are students already enrolled, at least half-time, in an undergraduate course of study for fall 2010 at a Title IV, two- or four-year college or university, or vocational-technical school, must demonstrate financial need, and be eligible to receive Title IV federal financial aid funding.
Deadline: The application period closed May 22, 2010.
Applications and Info: Information about the program can be found at aie.org/wootan.
